Marching towards Clinical AI in Digital Pathology: Perspectives from an Academic and former Commercial Algorithm Developer

Abstract
In this talk, I will discuss the progress made over the last decade for the implementation of clinical AI solutions for digital pathology. I will draw upon both academic and industrial experiences to discuss the various stages of growth of AI for digital pathology, including the challenges of the past, where we are now, and some perspectives for the future.
Bio
Dr. April Khademi is Principal Investigator of the Image Analysis in Medicine Lab (IAMLAB) at Toronto Metropolitan University and an Affiliate Scientist at St. Michael's Hospital. April's research focuses on the design of artificial intelligence (AI) tools for pathology and radiology images. April holds a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto and has had previous roles in research at the University of Guelph, GE Healthcare/Omnyx, Pathcore Inc., Sunnybrook Research Institute and Toronto Rehab Institute. She is a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario and IEEE Senior Member. April collaborates with clinicians from University of Toronto's Medical Imaging, LMP, Sunnybrook, UHN and St. Michael's Hospital.
